Gone cruising!

The title says it all! After a day spent with "Overwater On Tour" — a group of our moorers heading up the Llangollen for a spring cruise, I'm hooked! I've always loved boats — as a child we spent all our holidays sailing off the North Wales Coast, even venturing as far as the Isle of Man and Scotland. For me there's something wonderful about being on the water — it is just so relaxing and calming and all those other things which sound so corny when you try to describe them.

Anyway enough of the fluffy stuff about boating and onto the hard core action — you won't be able to miss our moorers on their Spring tour — they're all wearing bright yellow tee-shirts with "Overwater On Tour — 2011" on the back. At one point as we cruised along, all you could see in the distance was a sea of yellow tee-shirts and at every lock it was lovely to see the "yellows" helping each other out (and anyone else in their path come to think of it!) I finally got the chance to get my hands on the tiller and was delighted to find that the principles are just the same, with the one exception that in a GRP yacht, when the pontoon is coming up a bit too fast you can just stick the throttle in reverse and come astern quite quickly — not so with 10 ton of steel and a small prop!! Having sucessfully navigated my first bridge and a lock I was forced to hand over the tiller to Isabelle who was an amazingly good skipper for a 10 year old until the point where she got a bit distracted by the really cute donkey in the field on the left ........CRASH!
