The Big Switch On

Can it really, already be half way through January??? It seems such a cliché to say how fast time's going but I suppose if you think about it logically time really does get (relatively) shorter the older you get! That said the thing I like most about the winter time at the marina is that it does all slow down and we have more time to get through jobs and think about how we can improve things. In the office David is keen to tidy up — what I think he really means is that the pile of paper on my desk needs to be reduced from a mountain to something more akin to a molehill. I claim that I genuinely do know what and where everything is but I'm not sure I'd like to put it to the test!
Looking out of the window I'm currently watching the Audlem Lass gang pulling the boat out of the water — she's going into storage for the rest of the winter and will be lovingly cleaned and painted ready for the new season to start at Easter. She's late leaving the water this year — she was moored up between the locks after delivering Father Christmas to the wharf's crowds of excited children at Audlem's Big Switch On. And what a great switch on it was — it was sponsored by the Marina this year so we were given the task of pressing the big red button to switch the Christmas tree lights on in the middle of the village — I actually thought the children would be too old to get as excited as I was — but I was wrong — they were even more excited and we had a magical night, rounded off perfectly with a festive drink in The Lord Combermere. But enough about Christmas, which is now a distant memory. It's now time to wish you all a very happy New Year, new cruising routes, new boats, and new friends (I'm sure that could be that could be considered to be health, wealth and happiness all rolled into one!)
