The right thing

What a weird few days — on Friday we were judged for the High Sheriff of Cheshire Awards — it was a bit like being back at school — I'm not sure I'm cut out for all this high brow business stuff — but then again it's a really good way of taking a long hard look at what you're doing and helps you to look at the stuff you can improve. The category we're entered in for is all about corporate social responsibility — or in words of two syllables or less "doing the right thing". We were talking to the judges about the work of the Audlem Lass and how proud we are of the crew and all the volunteers who make it happen. They "do the right thing" and actually have a great time doing it. We "do the right thing" in supporting them and thoroughly enjoy having them around — it's a win win situation. One of the judges really made me think when he asked how do we "freshen up" the image of the Audlem Lass each year to keep people interested — and it made me realise that since we opened, almost 4 years ago, every day has been different, every week, every month and every season, with a change of faces, different weather, even the site growing and maturing — makes you realise how lucky you are to be in such an interesting place. Oh, and getting back to the weird bit — where on earth did that storm come from on Saturday afternoon — rain, hail, lightening and thunder — we got the lot!

Raft Padddle 1

We are very proud to say they made it! — our engineering team from Overwater Marina, lead by Simon Peek, workshop manager have recently been paddling for pounds as they completed a mammoth 10 mile paddle from the marina, near Audlem, to Nantwich basin and back to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute. The team nicknamed "Peeky's Blinders" were in their bespoke mini...
