Well the school holidays are now well and truly underway, and I'm juggling my time between home and the marina. When I'm at work I feel guilty I'm not at home and when I'm at home I feel guilty I'm not at work – and the reality is that no one really minds where I am – I really must sort that guilt complex out! Life at the marina is pretty varied – at the start of the month Sam and I rescued a greylag goose which couldn't walk – after a lot of watching it carefully to determine it really was struggling we finally found a cardboard box, loaded it up and dropped it off at Stapeley grange Wild Animal hospital. Angus did suggest it might make a lovely dinner....
In the middle of July a group of Audlem Lass volunteers and Angus and I went to stay at the RNLI Training College in Poole – what an amazing place – as well as a crew training centre, lifeboat building centre and sea survival training centre it's also a lovely hotel! We learnt so much more about how our fund raising helps the RNLI, from lifeguards on beaches to inland flood relief teams. It's quite humbling to realise that most of the crews are volunteers! On our way back we picked up Oscar the marina dog (he lives in London most of the year but spends the summers here). He loves to walk to work with me and sits happily by my desk providing someone pops in every now and then to take him for a walk (any volunteers??)
As I write this Angus and Colin are out replacing a beam on one of the jetties – replacing and repairing things seems to be an endless task, but thankfully it is one which gives us great satisfaction as there is nothing better than standing back and looking at a well maintained site (although Angus has commented that I should maybe take the same approach to housework)......pass me that hammer...!
