In fact where did this year
disappear to? I suppose it is true that time becomes relatively shorter the
older you get (think about that one). It's been so lovely to see everyone back
on their boats and enjoying the season – even if it was a bit wet at times the
mini Indian summer and the freedom of being able to finally get out and about
did make up for it a little.
My summer has been spent both at the marina and
also driving either daughter No. 1 or No. 2 around to either dressage or
shooting competitions. In fact most of August seems like a bit of a blur – a
lot of time spent driving the wagon and sleeping in the middle of fields. Fortunately
daughter No. 1 did quite well this year and came home with a range of
rosettes, prizes and qualifications. The
season culminated in a visit to the British Dressage National Championships at
Somerford Park near Congleton. Three stables down from us was one of the
British Olympic and European Dressage team members – it was really exciting
spotting all the big riders and a fabulous experience to be there albeit at one
of the lower levels. Daughter No. 2 finished off the summer with a visit to the
National Shooting Ground at Bisley for the English Open. She shot her socks off
and even made the semi final.
And now, as things calm down I can get back to
where I love to be – the marina. We've spent the summer building some extra
caravan pitches, a lake, an outdoor gym and my favourite bit – some railway
themed glamping wagons. I'm really excited about the fact that this now creates
a lovely circular walk for moorers and caravanners encompassing the old railway
cutting and the marina – oh and you can stop off for a go on the outdoor gym on
the way round! Not to mention my favourite new additions – a dog wash and our
brand spanking new Camperclean Machine (should I be worried about getting so
excited about something that empties your toilet
cassette!!....)
