Sunshine at last

What lovely weather we've been having in the latter part of May (I have to be careful what I'm saying here as I don't want to jinx it!!) David (our Marina Manager) is taking all the credit – he sat in the office on the 17th May and said not to worry about the weather as every time he goes on holiday on his boat the sun shines – 5 days of glorious sunshine later and I have to concede he was right – which leaves me with the strange deliberation of how much holiday can I get away with letting him have this year?? Maybe I should send him out for the whole summer, although I suspect, despite the sunshine we'd miss him far too much! The marina has been busy with lots of boats coming and going and making the most of the weather – it's lovely to see everyone out and about. We have at least 3 broods of Greylag geese goslings which are gorgeous and lots of ducklings around – particularly exciting to see them trying to get off the roof of a boat for the first time! The Oyster Catchers seem to be nesting on the island and the bird song early morning is superb! At home the girls have been off to yet another Riding Club Championships and after spending 3 days living in the wagon on a field in Aston Le Walls, near Daventry came home victorious with daughter No 1 winning her section outright in the combined training (dressage and showjumping) and daughter No 2 having her first individual placing in combined training as well as a jolly good time galloping round the Challenge 80 eventer's challenge course. As for me, well I got to spend a lot of time on the M6 driving the wagon, a lot of time hiding behind people while they jumped (I find it so stressful!), I got a lot of motherly pride and to cap it all off a double dose of sunburn! Next year I must make sure that David doesn't go on holiday at quite the same time.....
