Three Men in a Boat raise over £700 for the RNLI

We are very proud to say they made it! – our engineering team from Overwater Marina, lead by Simon Peek, workshop manager have recently been paddling for pounds as they completed a mammoth 10 mile paddle from the marina, near Audlem, to Nantwich basin and back to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute. The team nicknamed "Peeky's Blinders" were in their bespoke mini narrowboat raft called "Broke n Down" for the fundraising paddle. The raft was built by the team for the recent Overwater RNLI Festival Raft Race and Simon explains "it was just too good not to use it again – and the crew from the Rhyl RNLI station, where the money raised will be going to were amazing help at our festival – it feels really good to give a bit back. The raft is a mini replica narrowboat with a smoking chimney, coiled mooring lines, roof mop and canal ware bucket and its own tunnel light, which came in very handy on the way back." The team's inspiration came from the crew of the Audlem Lass Boat Service, which, crewed by volunteer runs from Overwater Marina, near Audlem to the bottom of the Audlem flight from Easter to the end of October every weekend, to raise much needed funds for the RNLI. Marina owner Angus Maughan, who followed the team on the towpath says "I am completely humbled and incredibly proud of the effort Simon and his team put into building the raft and their commitment to raising funds for such a worthy charity."
